Final Wing Opens to Residents

After 33 months, three phases of construction, two renovated units, and one expansive addition, the Holland Christian Home is proud to announce that Mountain View skilled nursing is fully complete and open for residents.

Nearly three years ago, the Home broke ground on the Spirit of Progress building project. The project had been in development for years: a new addition and series of renovations primarily aimed at transforming Mountain View, the Home’s in-house skilled nursing facility, from all semi-private rooms into a 57-bed unit with beautiful private rooms.

The renovations were comprehensive: three new dining rooms and two warming kitchens, spacious sitting rooms with fireplaces, manicured courtyard, and the latest clinical technology for 24/7 nursing staff.

Comprising two floors, Mountain View now stands at twice the size it was before. Thanks to the Home’s Life Care model and status as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), current and future residents at the Home can look ahead with confidence. They know that if they ever need around-the-clock care, they will receive it in the comfort and privacy of the Holland Christian Home’s newest space.

“This is the culmination of ten years of work. Thanks to the dedication of so many people, we’ve accomplished a milestone achievement.”

Chairman of the Spirit of Progress Building Project John Belanus

The new Mountain View has already proved to be a unique blessing. Through the unforeseen and rapid changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the nature of these renovations provided critical flexibility. Having private rooms for residents affected by the virus was essential for slowing its spread.

Now, with the final wing of Mountain View opening, more residents can experience the benefits that were always envisioned: a warm and personal environment with enhanced privacy and total dignity in the delivery of care.

There is still more to look forward to. In addition to ongoing renovations to some residential halls, the second floor of Mountain View is expected to be licensed as a Memory Care residence in early 2021. At that time, the Home’s spectrum of care will extend from the independence of residential living to the promise of personal care, memory support and 24/7 nursing when needed.

“These gains are essential to the Holland Christian Home’s mission of caring for our aging neighbors. As we celebrate 125 years of service this year, we are also laying the groundwork for another 125 years of faithfulness to come.”

President of the Board of Directors Steven Eichhorn
